Dhanteras Puja: Meaning, Preparation and Simple Vidhi

Dhanteras, or Dhantrayodashi, marks the opening of Diwali festivities in many Hindu traditions. Families remember Dhanvantari, Lakshmi and Kubera and welcome the season with cleaning, light and gratitude. The purchase of utensils or metal objects is a custom, not a compulsory condition for worship.

How to prepare: clean the worship place; place a diya, flowers, water, incense and a modest offering; keep an image or symbol of the deity according to family tradition. State a simple sankalp with your name, place and intention. Offer flowers and prayers to Dhanvantari and Lakshmi-Kubera as customary, light a diya safely and share prasad. Some families observe Yama Deepam in the evening.

For an exact Puja window, select your city and check a verified local Panchang. The date and evening timing may differ by place. Family customs also differ.
